when people are selfish under the guise of reform and responsibility, when they don't take any responsibility themselves. when statements in a debate are scornful and disparaging. when the good of the community can be ignored without a second thought, because individuals consider themselves more important than another group (particularly a group that is unable to defend themselves). when people's arguments have little to do with the real issue at hand and instead focus on concerns that, while valid, matter little if the central problem isn't resolved. when arguments have great sound-bites and one-liners to persuade against the issue, but commenters offer no reasonable, realistic alternatives.
but what makes me the most irritated is that i don't have any wine right now. but also that other stuff

how do boys have babies?
today, we did an activity to comparing different types of living things. they got to choose an ocean animal & describe it (how it moves, breathes, reproduces, etc). then they described themselves and the plants we're growing using the same category (how they breathe, how plants reproduce, etc). it was going well, albeit pretty difficult. i mean, really, how does a starfish breathe?
anyway, my friend, The Littlest (I have 2 littlests, but the other littlest is also very absent-minded, so I call him Seamore). so The Littlest comes over during the activity with a bit of a problem that i had overlooked:
Littlest: Ms. Molly, I'm a boy!
Me: Yes, you are....?
Littlest: How do I reproduce? I don't have babies!
Me: Um, no you don't really. But how do humans reproduce? How would a mommy have a baby?
Littlest: Through her tummy. (Pats his tummy) But *I* wouldn't have a baby in my tummy.
Me: So, then, do people have live babies? You could write that.
Littlest: (giving me the most incredulous look and speaking slowly) I would never have a baby.
Me: (thinking i better just let this go) Okay, why don't you skip that then.
so, what do you think? was i right in not taking the time to explain that sperm is how boys have babies? i think i was.

chicken: popcorn v. nuggets
There's a real sweet darlin' in my class that I'll call Loverly. This is because she is very snuggly-cuddly (daily hugs? yes please!) and I know she loves our classroom (mostly because she says it on a regular basis).
Anyway, Loverly has convinced her mother to let her have school lunch on Chicken Nugget Day. This is capatilized because it's pretty much a national holiday in my classroom. Cut to the other day:
Loverly: (proudly moves her name magnet to "School Lunch")
Me, thinking: It's not Chicken Nugget Day...?
**During lunch count**
Loverly: I want chicken nuggets!
Me: Well, there aren't any today. There's popcorn chicken; that's what you want. It's just like nuggets, only round.
Loverly: (dubious face)
Me: Popcorn chicken is the same thing as nuggets, only it looks like popcorn. But it's the same thing.
Loverly: (still dubious) Yeah, but does it taste like popcorn?
In case you're wondering - and I know you must be - she did get popcorn chicken and she liked it.

it's not a too-mah
woo - hoo! (if you're cool, you can imagine that 'woo-hoo' like when phoebe said it during monica's 30th birthday, when monica was super drunk)
it's my first head-ache free day this week. what could be causing them? let's make a list:
a) drinking hot tea every morning
b) being back at school full of very loud tiny people
c) a tumor
d) only mystery diagnosis could know for sure
my prediction is the noisy classroom; i'm going to test my hypothesis on monday.
in the meantime, i followed chris' advice, drank a large glass of wine, watched john oliver, and went to bed early. now i feel pretty awesome and am torting my dobos.
ps. upon further reflection of the new scrubs on youtube, i'm leaning. definitely leaning towards liking it. i laughed. out loud. at - of all characters - cole. he skeeves me right out - but i *like* it. gew.

the jury is out
on the new version of scrubs. i loved it once and syndication is like a cuddly blanket of laughs, but this new one is just not making me feel snuggled (metaphorically speaking). i mean, it's kinda funny and i still like the old cast ("i broke my ba-jingo bone") but it's like hanging out with a really old friend and thinking "were we really best-ies?" maybe i need to watch it more often. or maybe i need a hobby. blerg. i totally need a hobby.
yes, this is all i've got. fascinating.
