if there was an emoticon for shamed

i would put it right here: ___________

dear friends, i am sorry for my absence. i was working hard to put up that post about how my life at work is, but its like they sensed it and dumped a shit ton more work onto me. but the jokes on them, because now i have more fodder for my post! hahaha!

here's some things that have been happening.

1. i got a wicked eye infection
2. my insurance through michael is pretty great
3. our dog is getting big and really very sassy. the vet says, "oh yeah, it'll get worse before it gets better". very helpful, lady.
4. i have been eating starburst everyday since halloween
5. for 2 weekends in a row, i have had a mini drinking club with my friend from work, C. she is great (coincidence that her name begins with Ch, just like another awesome friend i know? probably)
6. i made raggedy robins
7. michael is getting a facebook!
8. we began watching Dexter. it is weird. weirdly fascinating.

so, in conclusion, not much has been going on. well, i did go through a major guilt shame-spiral that lasted several weeks and culminated in an explosion of tears and incoherent babbling last sunday. but since then, things have been much better. today, for instance, i found out all the crazy shit they are testing my students on in 4 weeks. there is no way in hell my kids are going to do well on those tests. so i say, "fuck it. let's just eat cookies and play puzzles for the next month! the test is shit anyway." so cookies and puzzles it is. HURRAY

p.s. did you know starbucks has its peppermint mocha back on the menu. go GET IT

pps. caton, to reward you for noticing my disappearance, i have comment-bombed your blog. enjoy!

ode to skelnik

dear sweet darling ashley,

i am a terrible friend/cousin (see how i put friend first?) i fail at checking your blog on a regular basis and there are no excuses. i consistently let you down in an internet-sense and so, until i whip myself into shape, i offer you these things:

1. public admittance of what crap i am (see above)
2. a christmas gift, even if i don't get you in the drawing (or two gifts if i do)
3. i will spend one evening or day over winter break doing anything you want
4. public declaration of how awesome you are (see below)

ashley, i LOVED what you wrote in the book kristina made me. i could never put into words how amazing you are and how much i love you (which is saying alot because i'm freaking WORDY). your letter made me smile and laugh and feel so loved, especially because i can tell that you really put time into it. i love the crap out of that cd too! you are awesome and that's all there is to it.

<3
molls

p.s. the last sentiment of awesomeness & love goes out to everyone who wrote in my book. (jen jen your personal letter is coming!)

in other news: i am working on a mega-post about a day in the life of my school, but it's quite a task. so i leave you with this: yesterday, with no apparent tie-in, one of my students says "My brother thinks Justin Beiber is gay." Oh. Yeah.

Baby Tweten!

ETA: here are those pics of me looking awesome (i'm laughing in one, because at that second, the baby had pooped. i could feel it. it was funny.) ALSO: I am soooo not ready for one of these yet. this morning, i threw a step stool because the dog was pissing me off. i think that's a big signal that i should wait on the whole baby thing.

here are some pictures of my new nephew Kyler. mdt's sister, emily, had her baby this past week and we went up to visit. he was everything a baby should be: -tiny -warm -soft -fussy -completely adorable. i love him. kristina's got some more pictures, so she better get those to me stat! (mostly because i look soooo good).

speaking of kristina, we had such a good weekend together. it was relaxing, with lots of quality time, puppy antics, and a very successful shopping trip (ann taylor loft, where have you and your perfectly cut pants been all my life?!) i miss her already, even though she's still at the denver airport because her flight was delayed. wwah wwah waaahh.

AWESOME SURPRISE WEEKEND

I had an awesome surprise anniversary weekend, planned and completely executed (with an itinerary!) by my seriously amazing husband. we got the idea of planning surprise weekend getaways for our anniversary's from my sil, emily {special shout out: she had a BABY today!} anyway, the clues were this:

1. it was within 4 hours of colorado springs.
2. it was a "destination"
3. cooley can come with us
4. it had something to do with trains, in a crossword puzzle clue type of way.

we went to Steamboat Springs (get it?! Steam - steam engines - trains!) it was glorious. we relaxed all weekend, went to a natural hot springs (which was the bomb), at yummy meals, took cooley for a bunch of walks, and went to bed early. oh yeah, and celebrated being married for a year (mdt's response = "uuuuuugggghhhhhh. a year?! it feels like 10"

here's the photographic evidence:

we went to watch the high school's homecoming parade. these preschoolers mobbed cooley and he loved it. there was also a kid in a banana suit.

cooley rolling in the grass while we watched the parade

an amazing breakfast place we ate at twice (mostly because cooley could sit with us on the patio)

i made the dobos torte cake and michael left me this note in the frosting bowl

squishy face

we took some long walks with great scenery

cooley enjoyed the river

our weird "official" anniversary picture before a REALLY fancy dinner

we went to a botanical garden and messed around

i kept wondering about why they had this lincoln statue until i realized the main street is Lincoln Ave. Ka-dur

And the best part of my weekend, without pictures, is that i bought some Danskos. Amazing. The End.

ps: in regards to my "pity party" post: cooley is under control; my bill is paid; and i went out to dinner last week with those girls who i thought didn't like me but it i think they DOOOO! but i still love marshall people more -- i wish i was at charlies with nachos and wine.
